PANAMA CANAL AUTHORITY

Independent Crisis Committee

The Panama Canal was opened in 1914 as a way to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. The canal expanded global trade routes and significantly reduced the amount of time it takes for goods to reach their intended destination. In 2024, the Panama canal connected 170 countries through maritime trade–further contributing to globalization. However, the construction of the Panama Canal was absolutely detrimental to local Panamanian communities, and there is still much debate over who truly operates the Panama Canal. In this committee delegates will represent members of the Panama Canal Authority, the current administering body of the Panama Canal, to solve operations crises within the canal and (hopefully) win full administrative rights to the canal once and for all. The status quo of maritime trade rests on the shoulders of this body!
