UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN

General Assembly | Political Representation of Women | Single Delegate

Established as a functional commission of ECOSOC in 1946, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the world’s lead intergovernmental policy-making body in exclusive pursuit of the advancement of women’s rights and achievement of gender equality. Every year, representatives from 45 member states and several UN-accredited civil society organizations convene in New York City to discuss an annual priority theme relating to women and girls’ fundamental freedoms. For the upcoming 69th session of the CWS, that theme is the honoring and assessment of the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. In this committee, delegates will evaluate the progress that’s been made in the Beijing Declaration’s 12 critical areas of action, including its acclaimed spotlighting of Violence Against Women. This tall but vital task requires participants to have a deep understanding of not only each action area’s distinct obstacles, but also how those obstacles intersect.
